Manchester City vs FC Barcelona, the big game!

Manchester City vs FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona will take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening.

It will be a rematch between the two clubs, as they played each other at the exact same stage of the competition last season – Barcelona won both legs and had an aggregate score of 4-1. They will be looking for a repeat of the 2-0 scoreline that they managed last season when they return to Manchester.

Both teams have had differing form in the Champions League so far, City have a record of just two wins from their six games, they drew two and lost two. The English club finished 2nd in Group E behind Bayern Munich with eight points. Barca’s form has been very good in Europe – they topped Group F ahead of PSG. They picked up five wins from six with their only loss coming and the hands of the French champions.

Heading into the game, City produced one of their best performances of the season, battering a hapless Newcastle United side 5-0. Meanwhile, Barcelona weren’t so lucky; they lost 1-0 at the Camp Nou to Malaga – which many have described as the Catalan’s worst performance of the season.

Suarez is in red-hot form at the moment, he is beginning to find his feet and mesh into Barcelona’s style of play. He will be a massive threat to the back four of City, like he was in his Liverpool days. His constant harassment of a defence that has not been in the best form this season could be a key factor in the outcome.

City’s captain will be vital. He first must regain some sort of form and secondly cut out the elementary mistake that’s plagued his season. With City being at home they will need Kompany on the top of his game to avoid conceding any away goals to the three-pronged Barca attack of Messi, Suarez, and Neymar.

Weighing everything up ahead of the tie I can see the score being 2-1 to Manchester City or 1-1. I can definitely see Barcelona getting on the scoresheet, but it will also be interesting to see how they bounce back from the poor performance and result against Malaga. Man City will be confident as they are at home and the recent result against Newcastle and the return of Yaya Toure to their midfield will only add to that confidence ahead of the game.
